Rizzo is literally the perfect dog aside from some separation anxiety. First of all, look at him, he is just the cutest. Secondly, his handicapableness (some hind end weakness) pretty much a non-issue. A dog that doesn’t jump on you? How is this a bad thing? He loves to snuggle so much. He doesn’t mind his kennel, but prefers you call it his condo, eats like a champ, is the only doorbell you need, is great with kids (amazing when supervised with the real short ones), and is perturbed by squirrels, rabbits, and window reflections. He says “HELLO!!!” instead of "hi nice to meet you" to other dogs and people walking on the sidewalk. Because of this, we 10/10 recommend a fenced in yard. As if you needed another reason to love him, you just have to see his zippy zoomies. When he gets them, we say he’s “running the derby.” He loves to go for a walk, but also hates it. Some days he wants a mile, some days he wants just one single sidewalk square. Sometimes he wants to sprint, mostly he wants to dive-bomb on other people's lawns. You’ll know it when you see it.
Cues to potty? Nope. If he is snooping around, that is the signal, that’s it. Could he learn cues? I asked him and he said, “Not interested. Next question.” Needless to say, our boy will benefit from a schedule and lots of praise.
Rizzo would love to have a work from home or retired family member, but he understands if that isn't in the cards. He is crate errr condo trained and will snooze the day away waiting for you to come home. Ideally, Rizzo’s family would spend their evening snuggling on the couch or playing with him as he is a very social dog. If you have errands to run or soccer practice to get to, he's up for a car ride. He loves being with his people so he is happy wherever you are.
Rizzo does have some hind end weakness due to IVDD. Although he was successfully treated in the past, nothing with IVDD is guaranteed. Rizzo should be kept at a healthy weight and be prevented from jumping on and off furniture to protect his back. We encourage all potential adopters to familiarize themselves with IVDD before applying.

While in foster care, all our dogs are thoroughly vetted. Any discovered medical issues will be disclosed above. Our Lucky Bulldogs (and their smushie-faced buddies) are cleared by their vet for adoption prior to us accepting applications. All our dogs will be up to date on Rabies & DHPP vaccinations, up to date on Heartworm preventative after a negative Heartworm test, and spayed or neutered prior to being adopted out to their forever homes. Often times, our dogs are given dentals and sometimes nare-widening surgery if needed while under anesthesia. All surgical and medical history we have will be shared with adopters. Further details can be discussed with the foster volunteer during the phone interview for the applications that are chosen to proceed to the phone interview part of the adoption process.
All our dogs are crate trained unless otherwise noted on their "All About" pages.

We will accept applications for our available dogs for 1-2 weeks except in cases of overwhelming popularity where we may stop accepting new applicants sooner. Once we have stopped accepting applications, we will review them and proceed with a phone call with our top two applications to chat about the dog being applied for, go over the adoption process, and answer any questions the potential adopter has. After phone calls take place, we will decide on our top applicant choice and proceed to contact them to schedule a home visit (in person or via video chat), and check vet and personal references before the adoption is ready to be completed. This process can take up to 6 weeks.
