Adopted

Name: Riker
Breed: English Bulldog
Age: 4.5 Years Old
Sex: M
Weight: 70 Pounds
Adoption Fee: $450
Foster Location: Omaha, NE
Cats: Yes, dog-savvy cats would be best.
Other Dogs: Yup!
House Trained: Yup!
Demeanor: Sweet with no deep thoughts.
Health Issues: None at this time.
Behavior Issues: He's a little bit socially awkward as in he just wants to love you, but doesn't know he's a close talker type of guy.
Riker is a four-year-old English Bulldog with so much love to give! He is your typical Bulldog in that he loves to snuggle, loves to lounge, and loves to be with his people. He will probably never play fetch or run marathons with you, but he is an expert companion and TV watcher. If you are looking for a dog to learn all sorts of new tricks or perform in obedience competitions, Riker is not it. We joke that he doesn’t have many deep thoughts and most of his brain functions are focused on staring lovingly at his people, thinking about food, and wondering why the chicken wanted to cross the road in the first place. We kid, we kid!
Riker is a good boy who was surrendered to the rescue due to allergic family members and he comes pre-installed with all the ideal pet characteristics. He is: totally potty trained, walks on a leash (he can pull), is crate trained (but prefers to be out), can be trusted alone in the house for short periods, loves everyone he meets, and knows some basic commands.
Riker’s faults? Well, he is socially awkward. He doesn’t quite get the memo when a dog doesn’t want to play anymore which can lead to some tussles. With time and correction, he should be able to figure it out. Riker is a very wet-mouthed dog. There is drool and then there is "Riker Drool." You will need to love mopping or be OK with wet spots on the floor. Maybe just wear shoes at all times? If you can live with these two things then Riker is your boy.
Riker is fully vaccinated, neutered, and had Entropion surgery on both eyes. Entropion is a condition where the eyelashes grow inwards instead of out and can cause irritation to the eye. The vet did not see any ulcers or lacerations in his eyes and his eyesight does not seem to be compromised at all. Riker also has an enclosed umbilical hernia which should not affect his life in any way. He just has an outie instead of an innie!
Riker is crate trained but does not love it. He can be hard to get inside the crate as he turns into 70 pounds of dead weight and will grumble about you trying to shove him inside. His foster family throws biscuits in the crate and he goes inside willingly. Once inside, he’s happy to snooze the day or night away. He does enjoy a frozen stuffed Kong or other enrichment toys to keep him busy while waiting for his people to free him.

While in foster care, all our dogs are thoroughly vetted. Any discovered medical issues will be disclosed above. Our Lucky Bulldogs (and their smushie-faced buddies) are cleared by their vet for adoption prior to us accepting applications. All our dogs will be up to date on Rabies & DHPP vaccinations, up to date on Heartworm preventative after a negative Heartworm test, and spayed or neutered prior to being adopted out to their forever homes. Often times, our dogs are given dentals and sometimes nare-widening surgery if needed while under anesthesia. All surgical and medical history we have will be shared with adopters. Further details can be discussed with the foster volunteer during the phone interview for the applications that are chosen to proceed to the phone interview part of the adoption process.
All our dogs are crate trained unless otherwise noted on their "All About" pages.
All our dogs are crate trained unless otherwise noted on their "All About" pages.
We will accept applications for our available dogs for 1-2 weeks except in cases of overwhelming popularity where we may stop accepting new applicants sooner. Once we have stopped accepting applications, we will review them and proceed with a phone call with our top two applications to chat about the dog being applied for, go over the adoption process, and answer any questions the potential adopter has. After phone calls take place, we will decide on our top applicant choice and proceed to contact them to schedule a home visit (in person or via video chat), and check vet and personal references before the adoption is ready to be completed. This process can take up to 6 weeks.
