Looking for an English Bulldog pup who will go for the gold when it comes to winning your heart? Meet Phelps....
Hi, I’m Phelps - a 9 month old English Bulldog who was born with Swimmer Syndrome. Swimmer Syndrome is an unusual and uncommon deformity found in newborn dogs. This complication prevents puppies from standing due to their limbs having weak muscles. Their front and hind legs are splayed to their sides, preventing them from standing and walking properly. Most will paddle to propel themselves forward, hence the name. My foster ma took me to lots of appointments and helped me with my exercises for a long time, and like the champion I am, I blew everyone out of the water with my determination and hard work. Today, I have 40-50% extension in my front legs and my back legs are just fine.
My body may not be the ideal breed standard and my legs may not be quite as straight as the other dogs at the dog park, but I don’t let it hold me back. I will go to the door to let you know when I have to potty. I only need a little extra help when it comes to stairs - what champion doesn’t have their demands? However, I AM super independent so the less stairs, the better! Swimming isn’t my only love; I also love running and jumping in the backyard. It’s even more fun when I get to play with my 3 Frenchie foster brothers - it’s like a smooshy faced Olympics!
Cats don’t bother me at all, and I largely ignore them. I mean, they don’t even have any swimming strokes named after them. Who’s ever heard of kitty paddle?! Ha!
Not everyone can say they can sleep with a gold medalist at night… but you can if you adopt me, because I am a champion sleeper and especially love to cuddle at the foot of your bed. You can use that fact to impress people at parties - you’re welcome in advance.
I am super chill and don’t mind hanging in my crib (that’s what I call my crate… MTV, hit me up for an episode!). I love to chew on my bones and laze by the warm fire. Sometimes it’s so relaxing, I end up falling asleep.
All in all, I’m a super laid back, fun kind of guy. I love everyone I meet. I enjoy the limelight (I AM a champion after all), but I’m also down to just kick it at home. Maybe we could watch the Olympics together?
Plus, have you heard I’m a jokester? Here’s a taste:
“What do you call a crime fighting dog that can swim underwater?
SCUBA-Doo!”
Hahahahaha I really crack myself up sometimes, what can I say???
Do I sound like the perfect one to practice your strokes with? (Especially those petting hand strokes?) Apply today!
I can’t wait to meet you!

While in foster care, all our dogs are thoroughly vetted. Any discovered medical issues will be disclosed above. Our Lucky Bulldogs (and their smushie-faced buddies) are cleared by their vet for adoption prior to us accepting applications. All our dogs will be up to date on Rabies & DHPP vaccinations, up to date on Heartworm preventative after a negative Heartworm test, and spayed or neutered prior to being adopted out to their forever homes. Often times, our dogs are given dentals and sometimes nare-widening surgery if needed while under anesthesia. All surgical and medical history we have will be shared with adopters. Further details can be discussed with the foster volunteer during the phone interview for the applications that are chosen to proceed to the phone interview part of the adoption process.
All our dogs are crate trained unless otherwise noted on their "All About" pages.
All our dogs are crate trained unless otherwise noted on their "All About" pages.
We will accept applications for our available dogs for 1-2 weeks except in cases of overwhelming popularity where we may stop accepting new applicants sooner. Once we have stopped accepting applications, we will review them and proceed with a phone call with our top two applications to chat about the dog being applied for, go over the adoption process, and answer any questions the potential adopter has. After phone calls take place, we will decide on our top applicant choice and proceed to contact them to schedule a home visit (in person or via video chat), and check vet and personal references before the adoption is ready to be completed. This process can take up to 6 weeks.
