Adopted

Name: JJ
Breed: English Bulldog
Age: 5
Sex: M
Weight: 55 Lbs
Adoption Fee: $450
Foster Location: Council Bluffs, IA
Cats: No
Kids: School aged and up
Other Dogs: If they are equal sized or bigger
House Trained: Yes
Demeanor: Run, play, sleep, repeat!
Energy Level: High
Health Issues: Mild Brachycephalic syndrome and minor laryngeal paralysis
Behavioral Issues: JJ is a playful and curious boy, which means sometimes he gets into things he’s not supposed to, like the bathroom trash can. He has a bit of that bulldog stubbornness as well, so calm redirection is his best ticket to success.
JJ is a 5-year-old English Bulldog who loves spending his days playing with his favorite toys, chewing on a bone, and snuggling up next to his people. He is a young boy at heart and will do best in a household with someone who helps him burn off all his energy, then lets him snuggle in for a mid afternoon nap. JJ is always in the mood for a walk, a game of fetch, or a wrestling match with his foster mom.
JJ was surrendered to the rescue due to difficulty adjusting to a new baby in the house. He does well with kids, just not the smallest versions of them, so he would not be a candidate for a household with anyone under the age of 6. JJ has been a pet his whole life, so he is a master at being the family dog and will come to you with a handful of learned commands and basic pet knowledge. He is fully potty trained, can walk on a leash like a champion, and is crate trained (although he would much prefer to be out and about in the house). He also comes preloaded with several commands like sit, stay, shake, and come.
Like all of us, JJ does have some faults. When he meets new people he jumps up on their legs and because of his top heavy stature, he may accidentally knock over someone who is not prepared for his enthusiastic greetings. Due to his fantastically floppy jowls, JJ is not the tidiest when it comes to eating and drinking. His forever family will need to love wiping up after him or want to invest in a good place mat for their floors.
JJ is fully vaccinated and neutered. He does have Brachycephalic syndrome which becomes evident when he gets too excited or worked up. Brachycephalic syndrome is a common condition in Bulldogs due to their short noses that causes them to have some difficulty breathing. In addition to this he also has a minor case of laryngeal paralysis. It does not really affect him except when he runs and plays, he tends to make loud gurgling noises that may be off putting to anyone that doesn’t know how sweet of a boy he is. These diagnoses sound pretty scary, but as long as his family helps to keep him fit and relatively calm then he will be a happy, healthy boy!

While in foster care, all our dogs are thoroughly vetted. Any discovered medical issues will be disclosed above. Our Lucky Bulldogs (and their smushie-faced buddies) are cleared by their vet for adoption prior to us accepting applications. All our dogs will be up to date on Rabies & DHPP vaccinations, up to date on Heartworm preventative after a negative Heartworm test, and spayed or neutered prior to being adopted out to their forever homes. Often times, our dogs are given dentals and sometimes nare-widening surgery if needed while under anesthesia. All surgical and medical history we have will be shared with adopters. Further details can be discussed with the foster volunteer during the phone interview for the applications that are chosen to proceed to the phone interview part of the adoption process.
All our dogs are crate trained unless otherwise noted on their "All About" pages.

We will accept applications for our available dogs for 1-2 weeks except in cases of overwhelming popularity where we may stop accepting new applicants sooner. Once we have stopped accepting applications, we will review them and proceed with a phone call with our top two applications to chat about the dog being applied for, go over the adoption process, and answer any questions the potential adopter has. After phone calls take place, we will decide on our top applicant choice and proceed to contact them to schedule a home visit (in person or via video chat), and check vet and personal references before the adoption is ready to be completed. This process can take up to 6 weeks.
