Hughie is a sweet boy who found his way to Lucky Bulldogs via a shelter who picked him up as a stray. Little is known about his past, but we do know he has limited vision and hearing. That doesn’t stop him from living his life to the very fullest. This boy is very food motivated who loves treats and snacks. He even gets excited to take his seizure pill every morning because it’s tucked inside a piece of hot dog! Seizures? Yeah, he had a couple when he first came to the rescue, but they are mainly under control now that he's medicated. He did have a breakthrough seizure when he tripped and bonked his head.

Hughie is quite the love bug who will happily hold down your lap or couch cushions. He takes his job very seriously. So much so that he naps most of the day away and will often move from cushion to cushion to make sure everything stays in place. He does spend time in his kennel when foster mom can’t be near because potty accidents are still a thing. Hey, he’s a work in progress! As soon as he starts stirring or getting restless, his foster mom takes him outside. She will stand next to him or walk him through the yard until he goes. Sometimes this takes a while, otherwise, he gets impatient and wants to go back inside and that's when accidents happen. But he does very well when given a small training treat after going potty outside and a pat on the head with a 'good boy.'

Hughie is not all naps and snuggles. He has been known to take a leisurely stroll around the block with his foster mom and even take a seat on the resident bulldog while it is napping. He's great socializing with the neighbors and enjoys campfires and barbecues on the deck. He loves being held and seems to be partial to men, but he's not prejudiced against laps. He’s also a great protector. Sometimes he wakes up his foster mom by barking at the doggie in the full-length mirror! He might try to hog her lap and that just won’t do!

Hughie is looking for someone who is comfortable caring for a dog that may have seizures in the future. His medication is less than $50 a month. Ideally, he’d be home with his person/people more often than not, but he would be willing to suffer the torture of being kenneled if need be. If there are plenty of treats and snuggles after, he promises to be a good boy! Due to his limited eyesight and hearing, a home with a mellow environment would be best, and older dog-savvy kids are a must.

While in foster care, all our dogs are thoroughly vetted. Any discovered medical issues will be disclosed above. Our Lucky Bulldogs (and their smushie-faced buddies) are cleared by their vet for adoption prior to us accepting applications. All our dogs will be up to date on Rabies & DHPP vaccinations, up to date on Heartworm preventative after a negative Heartworm test, and spayed or neutered prior to being adopted out to their forever homes. Often times, our dogs are given dentals and sometimes nare-widening surgery if needed while under anesthesia. All surgical and medical history we have will be shared with adopters. Further details can be discussed with the foster volunteer during the phone interview for the applications that are chosen to proceed to the phone interview part of the adoption process.

All our dogs are crate trained unless otherwise noted on their "All About" pages.

Apply for Hughie

We will accept applications for our available dogs for 1-2 weeks except in cases of overwhelming popularity where we may stop accepting new applicants sooner. Once we have stopped accepting applications, we will review them and proceed with a phone call with our top two applications to chat about the dog being applied for, go over the adoption process, and answer any questions the potential adopter has. After phone calls take place, we will decide on our top applicant choice and proceed to contact them to schedule a home visit (in person or via video chat), and check vet and personal references before the adoption is ready to be completed. This process can take up to 6 weeks.
