If you’re looking for a smart, lovable Olde English Bulldog who knows all the basics, but has a playful side and likes to keep you on your toes, Dixon might just be your guy! Dixon had a bit of a rough go in his previous home. He has a very gentle nature and loves everyone he meets, but men need to approach him slowly and allow him to warm up at his own pace. It usually doesn’t take very long, but forcing the issue before he is ready can make him a little unsure and he’ll bark to warn you that he’s feeling a little nervous. Other than that, he's never met a stranger!
Dixon is learning the joy of having toys. He loves squeaky balls and durable chew toys. He is super smart and willing to please. He knows sit, lie down, roll over, and is working on the stay command. He also knows commands in Spanish. What a smart boy! Dixon lived with smaller dogs in the past and enjoys their company, but he’s selective with larger dogs and prefers his fur friends be more submissive. He has not been around cats, but he’s been in close proximity to rabbits, squirrels, and birds and has not shown any interest in chasing them even when they run.
Dixon is what we call an independent spirit and if you have ever met a Bulldog we know you know what that means! For example, walking on a leash is LET'S GOOOOOO!!!!!, but a simple pause from his foster family makes him remember he's actually walking with them and not walking them. After that, he's ready to sniff all the trees. He’s also an awesome snuggler, but can be a bit of a bed hog if you let him. He just wants you to know how much he loves you, see? He told us he'd really like to sleep in bed with you, but if you say no he will happily sleep in a dog bed on the floor.
Remember that rough go in his previous home we mentioned earlier? Dixon had some bad experiences with kennels being used as punishment, so he doesn't love being in your typical dog kennel, but we are working on it with great success. In the meantime, to help him feel more safe and secure, he is currently using a 6’x 6’ outdoor kennel as his indoor kennel with no issues. Dixon does like to bark when first kenneled, but only for a bit. What can we say, he's just expressive, and would much rather be with his people! Dixon is still young at heart and can be a bit mischievous if left alone outside of his kennel (counter surfing is his favorite), but he's working on being a good boy in that regard. Recently he's proven trustworthy to left alone for short periods of time. Yay Dixon!
More than anything, Dixon just wants to please everyone and be loved on. He’s very playful and even mischievous at times and would be a great fit for an active family or couple who want to include him in their daily shenanigans. Do you have room in your home and your heart for this big goofball?

While in foster care, all our dogs are thoroughly vetted. Any discovered medical issues will be disclosed above. Our Lucky Bulldogs (and their smushie-faced buddies) are cleared by their vet for adoption prior to us accepting applications. All our dogs will be up to date on Rabies & DHPP vaccinations, up to date on Heartworm preventative after a negative Heartworm test, and spayed or neutered prior to being adopted out to their forever homes. Often times, our dogs are given dentals and sometimes nare-widening surgery if needed while under anesthesia. All surgical and medical history we have will be shared with adopters. Further details can be discussed with the foster volunteer during the phone interview for the applications that are chosen to proceed to the phone interview part of the adoption process.
All our dogs are crate trained unless otherwise noted on their "All About" pages.
All our dogs are crate trained unless otherwise noted on their "All About" pages.
We will accept applications for our available dogs for 1-2 weeks except in cases of overwhelming popularity where we may stop accepting new applicants sooner. Once we have stopped accepting applications, we will review them and proceed with a phone call with our top two applications to chat about the dog being applied for, go over the adoption process, and answer any questions the potential adopter has. After phone calls take place, we will decide on our top applicant choice and proceed to contact them to schedule a home visit (in person or via video chat), and check vet and personal references before the adoption is ready to be completed. This process can take up to 6 weeks.
